Welcome to
ACUPUNCTURE THERAPY CENTER

Dr. Katherine Teisinger DAOM, AP
Doctor of Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine
Acupuncture Physician

What is Acupuncture?

Acupuncture is the use of very fine needles put into the skin to stimulate and harmonize the physical, physiological and emotional functions in the mind and body. Chinese medicine believes that the mind, spirit and body are interrelated and all must be treated to promote a state favorable for
healing.

After taking your health history, Dr Kathy will examine you using Chinese Medical protocol. She will check your six pulses, examine your
tongue and ask many questions about your health and habits.  She will conduct a careful evaluation of your condition and then will prescribe
the best treatment.  She will carefully explain your treatment and she will encourage you to ask questions if you feel anxious about any part of the diagnosis or treatment.  A gown will be provided if needed.

What do I do while receiving Acupuncture?

1.  Get comfortable, close your eyes and relax.  Feel  free to ask questions at any point.
2.  Once treatment begins, do not change your position or move suddenly.  Breathe deeply, relax and communicate with Dr Kathy what you are feeling.
3.  It is all right to fall asleep during treatment.  The feeling of relaxation and peace is a normal part of the treatment.

What can I expect after treatment?

Some patients experience dramatic results after their first treatment.  Many experience an immediate total or partial relief of pain or other symptoms. This relief may be  permanent or some pain may return.  In a few cases, there may be no immediate relief but patients often notice pain will diminish gradually over  several days.  You can expect to feel better.  Acupuncture does not numb or kill the pain, it encourages the body to heal and then the pain goes away.

Does it hurt?

The needles used are very fine, approximately the thickness of a hair, sterilized and disposable. During treatment, correct stimulation of the needles will cause a patient to feel some tingling or electric sensation, but this is usually mild and beneficial.  It's not at all like getting a shot. Most patients report a state of profound relaxation.

How many treatments will I need?

That depends upon the duration, severity and nature of your complaint.  You may need only a single treatment for an acute condition.  A
series of five to fifteen treatments may be needed to resolve chronic problems.

Please feel free to call us with any questions.
